Miami-Dade County towns we serve
These north Miami-Dade towns have their own page. North Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach are served the same way.
How Miami-Dade County's bulky waste pickup works
Miami-Dade County collects bulky waste itself for unincorporated areas and for county-served cities, including Aventura, Miami Gardens and Sunny Isles Beach. Other cities, such as North Miami Beach, run their own. For county-served homes the rules are:
- Two bulky waste pickups a year, up to 25 cubic yards each, booked by appointment through the county's app, online or 311
- Nothing heavier than 150 pounds, and tree limbs 5 feet or shorter
- Mattresses must be sealed in a plastic mattress bag, or the pile can be fined
- Refrigerator and freezer doors removed
- No electronics, TVs, tires, microwaves, central AC units, rock, dirt or sand
- Out no more than 3 days before the appointment, by 7 a.m., within 10 feet of the street
When Miami-Dade residents call a junk hauler instead
Two appointments a year covers a spring clean and not much else. People call us when they have used both, when the item is over 150 pounds (a piano, a hot tub, a full safe), when the pile includes things the county refuses, or when it lives in a condo tower the county does not serve. The county's own bulky waste page has the current rules.
The county also runs Trash and Recycling Centers for residents of county-served cities. The nearest to our area is Norwood, at 19901 NW 7th Ave in Miami Gardens, open daily 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a Florida ID matched to an eligible address. It takes household trash, yard cuttings and up to 3 cubic yards of construction debris, but no white goods. Haulers are not allowed to use the centers, so a hauler's load goes elsewhere.
