Junky Jan clears furniture, appliances, mattresses and whole condo units in Sunny Isles Beach, along with the city's handful of houses. Our Hollywood base is about 16 minutes north. Local rules

Who collects bulk trash in Sunny Isles Beach

Sunny Isles Beach has two systems. Miami-Dade County collects from single-family homes, and the city's garbage page says condominiums and hotels are handled by private refuse companies. On the city's refuse map, the county-served houses are only two small areas: the Golden Shores streets on the bay side and the island along Atlantic Avenue. Those homes get two bulky waste pickups a year, by appointment, of up to 25 cubic yards each.

For most of the city, the county's bulky pickup does not apply at all. Even for the houses that have it, a lot falls outside it:

Clearing a condo unit in Sunny Isles Beach

Sunny Isles Beach is the most vertical town we serve. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put about 89% of its homes in buildings of 50 or more units, and about 94% in buildings of 20 or more. Getting a sofa out of a unit here is a building job, not a curb job.

The towers' own published rules follow a common pattern. Moves are allowed on weekdays during business hours only, booked several working days ahead with the management office. The elevator usually needs a deposit and a padding fee, and the association's dumpsters are off limits to anyone hauling out of a unit. A company doing the moving is usually asked for a certificate of insurance first. The city's code adds that garbage and trash go inside a building's dumpster, never on or around it.

Tell us the building when you book, and we work inside its rules. Our condo junk removal page covers how a high-rise job is planned.

Seasonal owners

Second homes and seasonal owners in Sunny Isles Beach

More than a third of all homes in Sunny Isles Beach are kept for seasonal or occasional use, according to the same census estimates. That shapes the work: units get refreshed before the winter season, cleared before a sale, or emptied after a long rental, often while the owner is in another state or another country.

A job like that can be run from a distance. Send photos or a short video of the unit, agree the price, and arrange access through the building's management office or a key left for us, with the elevator booked for a weekday slot. Pieces worth keeping can be set aside for donation, and our estate cleanout page covers clearing a whole household.

Drop-off options

Can Sunny Isles Beach residents use Miami-Dade's trash centers?

Houses yes, towers probably not. Miami-Dade's 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers are open to residential waste fee customers in the county-served cities, Sunny Isles Beach included, and the county matches your ID to an eligible address in its customer database. The nearest is Golden Glades, at 140 NW 160th Street, open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., about 15 minutes from the city's Government Center. The county's trash center page lists what each one takes.

Condo-tower owners are in a different position. Their buildings use private haulers and pay no county waste fee, and county code limits the centers to waste from county-served residential units, with multi-story condominiums excluded; an unauthorized delivery carries a $500 fine. The North Dade Landfill takes trash for a per-ton fee. Our Miami-Dade County page covers the county's rules in full.

Getting to you

Getting to you in Sunny Isles Beach

Sunny Isles Beach sits on the barrier island at the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County, about 16 minutes and 9 miles from our base on Grant Street with no traffic. The quickest way is south on I-95, east on Ives Dairy Road, then over the William Lehman Causeway to Collins Avenue, which is A1A through the city. The coast road, down A1A through Hallandale Beach and Golden Beach, is slower but sometimes easier to the northern towers.

Aventura is just across the Intracoastal and has its own Aventura junk removal page.

FAQ

Sunny Isles Beach junk removal questions

Does Sunny Isles Beach pick up bulk trash from condos?
No. Miami-Dade County collects bulk only from the city's single-family homes, and the city says condominiums and hotels are handled by private refuse companies. A condo owner with a sofa or a whole unit to clear needs a private hauler, working inside the building's move hours and elevator booking. We plan tower jobs that way.
How do I book a bulky waste pickup for a house in Sunny Isles Beach?
Call 311 or Miami-Dade Solid Waste on 305-594-1500, or book online through the county's 311 system. County-served homes get two pickups a year of up to 25 cubic yards each, with appointments opened 30 days ahead. Put the pile out no more than three days before the date, by 7 a.m., within 10 feet of the street.
Can Sunny Isles Beach condo owners use Miami-Dade trash centers?
Probably not. The county opens its 13 trash and recycling centers to residential waste fee customers and checks each ID against its customer list. Condo towers in Sunny Isles Beach use private haulers and pay no county waste fee, and county code excludes multi-story condominiums from the centers, with a $500 fine for an unauthorized delivery.
Do I have to bag a mattress for bulk pickup in Sunny Isles Beach?
Yes, for a county pickup at a house. Miami-Dade requires a mattress to be fully sealed in a plastic mattress bag or sleeve with weather-resistant tape, though a box spring does not need one, and a violation can bring a fine. A mattress taken straight from a unit or a house by a hauler does not need bagging.
Can you clear a Sunny Isles Beach condo while I'm out of town?
Yes. Many owners here are away when a unit needs clearing. Send photos or a video of what goes, agree the price, and arrange access through the management office or a key left for us. We book the elevator inside the building's weekday move hours and leave the unit swept when the last piece is down.
How much does junk removal cost in Sunny Isles Beach?
It depends on how much truck space the load takes, plus anything unusually heavy such as a piano or a stone table. A single armchair is a small load and a furnished two-bedroom unit is a large one. Photos are usually enough to price it before a date is booked; see junk removal cost for what moves the price.
