West Park's bulk days are changing this year
The new WM contract changed how bulk days are set. Under the old schedule, each part of the city had its bulk pickup on the second, third or fourth Monday of the month. The city chose to move bulk to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday so that it matches each street's recycling day, with the old schedule kept for 90 days, to September 30, 2026, while WM drew up the new routes. Fines for set-out violations were suspended during that changeover.
As of early October 2026, the city's website had not posted the new schedule. Until it does, call WM on 954-615-4050 to confirm your day before you put anything out, because a pile out more than 72 hours early is a code violation, and citations start at $250.
Junk removal for West Park's older houses
West Park is a city of houses. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put almost 87% of its homes in detached single-family houses, with very few apartments and almost no condos, and a median build year of 1961, among the oldest housing stock in south Broward.
Older houses tend to come with carports, sheds and garages that have filled up over the years, and with families clearing out a parent's home. For the handful of small apartment buildings, West Park's code bars using a building's dumpster area for furniture and major appliances outside a scheduled bulk pickup.
The county drop-off center is in West Park
Broward County's South drop-off center sits inside the city at 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard, a little over a mile from City Hall. West Park is a participating city, so residents can bring furniture, appliances and yard waste on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., up to four times a month, with a photo ID and a document showing their West Park address. Garbage, tires and propane tanks are turned away, along with trucks bigger than a full-size pickup.

West Park's neighborhoods
West Park became a city on March 1, 2005, and its history page names four neighborhoods: Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Miami Gardens and Utopia. Carver Ranches is the oldest, settled by families who bought land and built homes there in the early 1940s, and the city's Pioneer Wall at Mary Saunders Park honors them. Lake Forest is the part closest to Hollywood.
The Miami Gardens neighborhood in West Park is not the city of Miami Gardens in Miami-Dade County, which has its own Miami Gardens junk removal page with that county's very different rules.

West Park sits on Hollywood's southwest edge, between Hollywood and Miramar, so the drive is short: about 11 minutes and 5 miles from our base on Grant Street to the middle of the city, with no traffic.
